iOS update 5.80.1 - Lights shortcut returns
ios
app-request

Yep.  5.80.1 just dropped on the iOS App Store and my lights shortcut has returned back to the top of the dashboard.  Now, if they will just restore the RED NUMERIC INDICATORS that go along with each individual camera.

Agreed, now they need restore the RED NUMERIC counter on each camera on the dashboard but probably like you, I am losing confidence in the Ring App development team.

It's only taken them a month and who knows how many 1000s of complaints to bring back one short cut tile.  I for one won't be happy with this simple crumb thrown out in an attempt to appease customers.  The only way to rectify this fiasco is to fully restore the app to 5.78s functionality and UI.  That's a non negotiable for me.

Guys, everyone is saying the same thing. We WANT and NEED the Red Dots, aka Unseen Activity Counters... this is a  basic necessity in a security system!  Ring is trying to find out how much you love them, because in March 2025, you are likely to see them return! At DOUBLE the current subscription prices!  Just wait and see!  Average and Sophisticated users will need to migrate to Home Premium! You will be fed bloatware.  Then see how much you love Ring!  You have choices. Ring is not listening. Other companies are bending over for your business. Not Ring though...

I also installed 5.80.1 last night in high hopes that the event counters would be returned to the app, but no. It was nice to see that they returned the shortcut tile, however.  The event counters need to be returned, not only to the history tile, but also to each camera. Without this feature, the application in my opinion is quite useless.

If their intention as they claim was to clean up the application and make it more attractive, they should’ve gotten rid of all their badges for new products and advertisements within the Camera view.

Your opinion is 100% correct, without the individual indicators informing the user which camera was triggered, the app is quite useless.  I have 6 cameras in 1 location, fairly simple, so without the #'d red dots, it's an inconvenience to put it mildly.  Some RING customers have a dozen or more cameras spread out over multiple address locations.  I cannot even begin to imagine the insanity of trying to use the RING app and figure out what camera went off with a setup like that.  Any RING user could've easily explained to these rocket engineers in 15 seconds why removing the red # indicators would be an absurdly stupid UI to incorporate into the app.  Smh.

Hi dm0413, Yesterday on my iPhone and iPad I had the lights shortcut and an “event summary” showing a 24 hour bar chart showing total event counts for that location.  The event summary was useless to me.  The app said 5.80.1 which it still does today BUT the lights shortcut and the “event summary” are both gone.  There was another user here that said he never upgraded but still lost the red badges for unseen events.  Seems that the app can be updated or not and Ring can still change what the user is seeing, does that make any sense?  Do you still have the lights shortcut?  Maybe I need to getting screenshots for some of this stuff as proof to Ring what I see before it changes without any update.

Yes I still have the lights short cut tab at the top of my dashboard.  As for other users not updated to iOS app version 5.79 or higher, and yet they are some how missing the red # indicator bubbles, its my theory that since each RING camera is connected to the internet 24/7, its possible that the method used by RING to disable the activity indicator #s from being reported to the app (no matter the version) was in a firmware update thats automatically updated by each RING device that coincided with the 5.79 app update.  So the missing red dots w/#s, may not be necessarily tied directly to the 5.79 app update.  Let's say my Garage Cam was trigged 10 times during the day, the amount of activations, being the # 10, is not being reported from the Garage Cam to the RING app.  The only info being sent from the Garage Cam to the app is that it was activated at least once, which would explain why all I'm going to see when I open the app is "New Events" on the History tab and no actual # telling me exactly how many.  Thats my theory anyway.  As for the moved shortcuts tabs, thats purely tied to the app UI re-design.  You can check each devices current firmware # using the web interface, but theres no way to tell when it was installed, it just says "up to date".  See screen below for my Floodlight Cam Pro.

I was also quite pleased to find the lights shortcut tile returned to the app after the install of 5.80.1, although I was hoping for the red numeric indicator to return on each camera and the history tile.

About a day after the install of the latest application build, I noticed a small blue dot by the camera name in the upper left-hand corner.  I’m not sure if it’s something I initially missed or if it was added after as a push rather than part of the application build itself.

In my opinion this blue dot makes up for the loss of the number count; it at least shows which cameras have new activity.  When I use the application I normally look at the history tile and whether it has a number count or not it shows me if there’s new activity.  I then scroll through my camera tiles and see which camera has the blue dot.  I then click on that camera to view the new activities using the timeline view.

I normally delete all videos to avoid clutter, so the new videos are the only ones to pay attention to.  If there are other videos in the timeline that I have needed to save, they have been starred as a favorite, thus standing out from the more recent footage that needs to be looked at.

It would be interesting to know when this blue dot was added and if the intention is to replace the red numeric counter icon.  In any event it appears that Ring is trying to address the removal of the feature while keeping with their apparent intention of a cleaner look.

This little blue dot was just in time for me, as I was seriously looking into Eufy Security and canceling my Ring subscription, which is renewing at the end of this month and didn’t leave much time to make a decision.

I hope that Ring development learns a lesson from the problems this has apparently caused many users and is more careful in the future.
