Ring Intercom on Mircom IS-489: False Alerts When Neighbors Use Buzzer or Door Unlock
Hi all, I’ve installed a Ring Intercom on my building’s Mircom IS-489 analog intercom system, and while it works for unlocking the main door and receiving notifications, I’m running into a problem: I get alerts even when neighbors are being buzzed or when they unlock the door — even though no one is at my unit. Here’s what I’ve found during testing: My intercom has 4 screw terminals (typical for IS-489). I have 8 wires total — 2 wires per line. Terminals 1–3 are clearly shared lines (looped from unit to unit). Terminal 4 appears to be dedicated to each unit, as only it carries the ring signal specific to my apartment. I disconnected the daisy-chained (outgoing) wire from Terminal 4, leaving only the one coming from the main panel, so it should only carry my ring signal. Despite this: Ring Intercom still alerts me when neighbors are called or unlock the door. I suspect it is reacting to shared line activity on Terminals 1–3. There are no advanced filtering or sensitivity settings available under “Analog HDX” mode in the app. Has anyone found a way to make Ring Intercom ignore shared line activity and only respond to their own unit’s buzzer signal? Or is Ring working on a firmware or software solution to filter these false positives? Any tips from Ring staff or other users with Mircom setups would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am having the same issue. Same exact 4 wire setup you described. I also only have the Tone In wire from the call box connected to terminal 4. Not sure if this is true for you but I also seem to be getting notified when there is loud, sustained noise (lawn mowers) near the call box. I’m waiting on a ring cam that I am installing so that I can check to see if it is a false alarm when I get notified while away. Also just to confirm how you installed this, did you need to twist the wires from the ring harness onto the twisted pairs of common wires? Thanks

Thank you so much for taking the time to post and all the details!
I've also got the IS-489 and wanted to purchase the Intercom for my unit!
Did you or anybody had any kind of solution from support or elsewhere?
Please advise! Thank you!
