- JI have a Synology router that supports failover / load balance internet via a second wan interface. I currently have a Verizon hotspot plugged in as a failover WAN device. Can the Ring Pro device be set up to work the same way? Basically, if I sign up for Ring internet backup, is it connected to the cellular network? I would not use the Ring as WiFi router. If so then I can run an Ethernet connection from the Ring device to my wan backup port on my Synology router and have backup/load balance option?•

- CHi @jwp12. The Ring Alarm Pro uses a cellular connection to provide your Ring and non-Ring devices with wifi with the [Backup Internet](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061018412-24-7-Backup-Internet-and-Extra-Data) feature. It's also important to note that the Ring Alarm Pro is designed to be used as a primary wifi router that connects to your existing modem. Using the Alarm Pro in other setups or configurations may prevent certain features from working, such as the Backup Internet.•

Hi, despite what Ring advertises and what the technical support will tell you, I was able to make use of the Ring backup Internet feature without connecting it directly to the Internet modem. My house has concrete between the main ground floor and the downstairs. As a result there is no mobile signal downstairs where my only cable Internet connection is located. Because of this I could not connect the Ring Alarm Pro base station directly to the modem as it cannot connect to the backup mobile network downstairs. So what I did is connected an ORBI directly to the modem downstairs. Then connected an ORBI satellite upstairs directly to the Ring router upstairs. Basically: cable wire → wired cable modem → wired Orbi → wireless Orbi → wired Ring. note the Orbi’s are on network 1 and the Ring creates a network 2. I have all devices connected to the Ring network 2. When the cable internet goes down the Ring connects to ATT, and all devices on network 2 benefit from the ATT mobile backup service. I do want to mention in my area ATT mobile is very slow so the backup feature is still not optimal. I haven’t called Ring to ask if they can switch to the T-Mobile mobile network as it has better signal where my home is located. Hope this helps someone.
