Doorbell 2nd gen won’t finish set up
Hello. I have several ring products at my house and generally all connect and work really well.
I bought my mum a doorbell 2nd generation at Christmas and have been unable to set it up on multiple occasions.
I’ve resorted to registering it at my house to check it works (it connected fine) and had to wait while it was disconnected from my account.
It’s since come back to my mums house and my brother in law got this reconnected, but it constantly loses its connection.
It goes through saying it’s connected but doesn’t respond to motion or ring presses, nor activate the chime.
When I go to reconnect this via the WiFi, it connects to the app and goes through the set up then says ‘ring failed to connect’.
I’m banging my head against a wall on this, can anyone help??

Hi @user81821. Thank you for sharing what troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried so far. You mentioned that the router is dual band - the Ring Doorbell 2nd Gen is only compatible with 2.4GHz networks. I’d recommend creating a guest network on the router utilizing only 2.4GHz to see if that allows for a successful connection.
Some other things to check include the ports and protocols used by Ring devices, and the wifi channel. Lastly, we have various troubleshooting steps for the setup process here. If this issue persists after trying all of the above, please reach out to our support team for further assistance. I should also add that the house is on fibre and the router is dual band.
