Battery Video Doorbell as a replacement - concerns regarding its performance and security

Dear Ring Customer Support,

I recently received a Battery Video Doorbell as a replacement for my Video Doorbell (2nd Gen, 2020), and I have a few concerns regarding its performance and security:

  1. Video Quality: The resolution is noticeably lower than my previous device, and the image shows black shadows around the edges, which affects visibility.
  2. Security and Mounting: The 2nd Gen device had security screws at the bottom for added protection. The replacement is easily removable, raising security concerns.

Given these issues, the replacement does not match the performance or security standards of my original Video Doorbell. I kindly request a solution that provides higher resolution, longer battery life, and secure mounting comparable to the 2nd Gen model.

Hi @user_f0ccd4. Thank you for sharing your feedback about your device. I'd love to help you get your video quality up to a level where you happy with. First, what is the RSSI of this device? This can be found in the Device Health menu. The Battery Doorbell has 1440 HD video, which should have great video quality. Can you upload a video from your device so I can see if it is consistent with what is expected from your device?

      Hi, it is RSSI-58.

Battery Video Doorbell - the image shows black shadows around the edges. Not great, feedback given in first post.

      Hi, I still need resolution.

the replacement does not match the performance or security standards of my original Video Doorbell. I kindly request a solution that provides higher resolution, longer battery life, and secure mounting comparable to the 2nd Gen model. 2 photos shared.

Hi @user_f0ccd4. Thank you for sharing an example. The view you shared does appear normal for a Battery Video Doorbell. Additionally, the Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) has been discontinued, which is why that same model could not be sent as a replacement device.

      Hi,

      Thank you for your response.

However, this does not resolve the core issue. I was explicitly advised (Request ID: plc4d14-155e) that I would receive an “equal or better replacement” for my Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation).

The Ring Battery Video Doorbell provided does not meet that standard, for the following reasons:

      • Video quality: The image quality is materially worse in real-world use, with visible shadowing/vignetting at the edges, reducing usable field of view.
      • Security & mounting: The absence of security screws makes the unit significantly easier to remove, representing a downgrade in physical security compared to the original device.

I understand the original model has been discontinued. However, that does not change the commitment made to provide an equal or better replacement.

      Please can you:

      1. Confirm which current model you consider to be an equivalent or upgrade to the 2nd Generation device, and
      2. Arrange a replacement that meets or exceeds the original in both video performance and physical security.

If helpful, I am happy to return the current device.

I would appreciate a clear resolution to this, as the current replacement does not meet the agreed standard.
