Ring Battery Video Doorbell 2K Plus failing after just over 2 weeks
Hello,
My Ring Doorbell camera appears to be stuck in some god awful low bitrate mode, the camera is pixelated and blocky and audio is choppy and robotic sounding both in live view and downloaded videos the last few days. Tried factory reset multiple times and and it did not fix the issue. My RSSI for the device is -44 on 2.4/5GHz split SSID network with 8GB up and down full fibre and I've tried both channels to be sure, it's exactly the same no matter what. NVM, sent it back for a replacement. We'll see how long this one lasts.

Hi,
I’m continuing to experience a severe low bitrate issue on the Ring Battery Video Doorbell 2K Plus, despite a repleacement.
Details:
- This is the second unit. The first one developed the same problem after just over 2 weeks and was returned.
- The replacement unit is showing identical symptoms immediately.
- Both Live View and downloaded recordings are affected.
- A 30-second recording is only approximately 2 MB. Previously (before the issue started) the same length recordings were around 25 MB.
- Signal strength (RSSI) is excellent at -27.
- The doorbell is currently placed directly next to a strong 5 GHz access point (TP-Link RE550 in AP mode, channel 100, 80 MHz).
- My phone on the same 5 GHz network gets over 500 Mbps upload and download.
- However, the Ring dashboard shows only:
- Wi-Fi Speed: 49 Mbps
- Internet Upload Speed: 13 Mbps
- 2K Video and HDR are both enabled in the settings.
- I have already tried restarts, battery removal, and confirming all video quality settings.
This strongly suggests a firmware, encoding, or account-related issue rather than a simple connectivity problem, especially as it has now occurred on two separate devices despite excellent signal and high-speed network conditions.
Please advise on the next steps or arrange a further replacement / investigation.
Thank you.

Hi @Gary_L. I hope the replacement device fixes this issue. If it doesn't, I would recommend running a wifi speed test at the location your doorbell is installed. We have more information on how to find the upload speed here. An insufficient upload speed can cause issues like what you're describing.
