Subject: Formal Complaint: Forced Deletion of Legacy Account and Breach of Promised Free Features

Dear Ring Support Team,

I am writing to formally register my strong objection to the forced deletion of my Ring account and the resulting loss of the lifetime free features that were explicitly promised.

I purchased my Ring Doorbell long before the introduction of subscription fees in 2023 and was assured that I would retain those original free features for the lifetime of my device. Yet, several months ago, I received an unexpected message in the Ring app stating that a request had been made to delete my account—something I never initiated. I immediately contacted your support team to report that I had not requested deletion and that I wished to keep my account active.

Your response — citing “recent security updates” that required you to complete the deletion anyway — was unacceptable. My account was forcibly removed, despite my explicit objection, and I was instructed to create a new account instead. This action effectively stripped me of the lifetime free access that was promised and compelled me into a paid subscription structure that I never agreed to.

To make matters worse, I was offered a six-month Ring Home Standard subscription credit as a goodwill gesture, yet that promise has not been fulfilled. I have attached the email you originally sent, which stated the credit would be valid for two years and that I only needed to reply to that message to redeem it. However, when I did so, I received a response indicating the email address was no longer active. When I contacted customer service for assistance, the situation could have been resolved, but instead I was met with a lack of support and empathy.

This conduct is not only disappointing but unethical. For Ring to retroactively revoke promised legacy benefits, delete accounts without user consent, and then renege on an offered remedy is indefensible. I cannot imagine I am the only original customer subjected to this. How many of your earliest supporters—those who helped make Ring successful in the first place—had their legacy access quietly taken away under the same pretense?

I respectfully but firmly request that Ring:

1. Reinstate my original account with the free legacy features intact; or

2. Provide an equivalent resolution

Please respond by email at **************. I expect a prompt and fair resolution that restores both the functionality I was promised and the integrity I once associated with the Ring brand.

Sincerely,

Jen & John Dooley

The email you sent in response to my notification that I did not request, nor did I authorize, the deletion of my account.

Subject: Ring Account Inquiry

Thank you for contacting us about maintaining your Ring account. Our records show that you previously used this email address in a request to delete your account. We understand you are still using your Ring account; however, recent security updates require us to complete the deletion to avoid issues or service interruptions.

Your account will be deleted on August 13, 2025, and you will lose access to your videos. Don’t worry — staying connected with Ring is simple. Please follow the steps below to save your videos and reconnect your devices to a new account.

Save any videos you would like to keep. Remove your Ring devices from your current account. Set up a new account using a new email address, and reconnect your devices before August 13. After August 13, this email address will be released from your account. If you would like to use this email address for your new account, you can update your email address after August 13. We appreciate that you're a Ring neighbor and would like to offer you a subscription credit equal to a six-month Ring Home Standard plan to your new account. Please reply to this email with the email address used to create the new account so we can provide this credit. Then, you will need to sign up for a Ring subscription on Ring.com to use the credit.*

If you need any assistance, please respond to this email with your phone number, location (including time zone), and two dates and times when we could reach you for a phone call. We appreciate the opportunity to get you set back up with Ring.

*Credit expires two years after issuance.
