Suspicious connections from Ring Camera

Hi, I need some help. My NETGEAR Orbi keeps blocking a “Suspicious Connection” from my Ring camera, and this has been happening for about a week. The cameras are recording without any issues, so I’m not sure what’s causing these alerts or if I should be concerned.

Could you please advise what this means, whether I need to take any precautions, and how I can resolve the issue?

Thanks for your help.

Hi @user_94ccd1 and @user_cdff40. This is a NETGEAR feature, and you should be able to add an exception for your Ring devices to stop the notifications from coming through. If you need assistance with adjusting your router settings, please reach out to NETGEAR's support directly.

Are trying to say to unblock it? My question is why did it happen in the first place? Is this your only solution? I have seen a lot of users complaining about the same what has been done so far.

@user_94ccd1 The notifications are being sent by NETGEAR, not Ring, so we do not have information on what causes them to be sent. In the screenshot shared in this thread, you can see that the notifications are being sent through a feature called NETGEAR Armor

I’m experiencing the same thing with my Nighthawk router. It’s been happening for about a month now but in the last week I’ve been getting attached a lot Moore. What can be done to fix this? It looks like someone is trying to hack into my cameras.

This is a situation with your router, not Ring.  It could be there was an update to your router and it's no longer recogizing the Ring connection.  You need to contact Netgear and ask how to resolve this.

This is a really lousy response.  The error being sent from netgear is that "your" ring devices are trying to contact a suspicious IP. This means your ring device is acting suspiciously.  100% on you at ring. All seven of my outdoor ring devices are throwing this error.

This is happening to me also. Why would it be reaching out and for what purpose?  Only one device out several did this. Is there context that a ring representative can share as to why it would be reaching out?  The ring rep I spoke to said it was due to the sidewalk feature. But mine was turned off. So does this mean the the forced opt-in that I had to opt-out off is being ignored?  With all do respect I don't think the ring reps are actually responding are not doing due diligence.

For those being affected call into ring support, open a ticket, and insist they investigate. This seems fishy.

Hi @user_4ae8af. Please review the information in the marked solution. If you have a NETGEAR router with the NETGEAR Armor feature, and are receiving notifications from that feature about a suspicious connection being blocked, please reach out to NETGEAR's support for assistance. These notifications are not being sent by Ring.

I spoke with Netgear Armor, and they advised that the alerts could be due to suspicious activity, potentially a hacking attempt, or an issue related to the Ring device itself. Their recommendation was to update the password to a strong one and place all IoT devices on a separate network. I hope this helps—I will be trying the same steps. However, the issue has not been fully resolved yet.

My alert just happened and armor suspicious alert timestamp and the ring health check timestamp were the same.   So what exactly is the health check doing??
