Backstory: one of my wonderful stepsons, the IT guru, bought me a “Ring” doorbell camera to replace my ageing intercom. The intercom unit was wired to a plug-pack with a hole drilled through the wall and had worked flawlessly for many years. The “Ring” doorbell was battery operated which would require removal and recharging after several weeks. Not on my watch!As the thoughtful (?) people of “Ring” had decided to use a USB 2.0 connector for charging purposes, the process was now to enlarge the cable hole previously used and turn a circular hole into a rectangular channel. With the assistance of another wonderful stepson and 2 hours of blood, sweat and (my) profanity later, we had achieved a practical solution.Over the course of several weeks, the charge would be checked and if around the 60% mark, a power point switch was turned on for several minutes to fully recharge the device. No screwdriver to detach screws which could not then be dropped on the ground. Problem solved!Good people of “Ring”, please use a ROUND connector to aid in the practical charging of your device by allowing just a drilled hole to permit passage of the connector and lead! IMHO there should never be any need to continue to unscrew a device just to charge it – please get it right!
