GE Wall toggle switch won’t pair with Ring

Hello, I have a smart things Hub. It works in there, works with Alexa no problem too. I can’t add it to ring. It’s just stuck in pairing step, untill it says it was unsuccessful. Im confused, does the ring base station take the place of the zwave hub, or do you need a hub, a base station, and just make sure the switch is paired to the base station? Is there a reason you need both a hub and the base station? I am currently using a vera lite as my hub, but didnt realize the ring can control all my stuff, like my switches, and thermostats.
