Battery Level Not Updating After Swapping Fully Charged Battery (Ring Video Doorbell 3)

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share an issue I’ve been running into with my Ring Video Doorbell 3 to see if others are experiencing the same thing and hopefully get this on the radar for the Ring team.

Whenever I put in a fully charged battery, the Ring app continues to show the old low battery percentage for quite a long time before it finally updates. The delay is big enough that it looks like the battery is still nearly empty even though it’s fresh off the charger.

The first time this happened, I assumed the battery was faulty and ended up throwing away a spare that was actually still good. Since then, it’s happened multiple times, and the battery level does eventually correct itself which makes it pretty clear this is a telemetry or firmware sync issue, not a battery problem.

This causes a lot of confusion and could easily lead other users to think their batteries are failing when they’re not.

Is this a known bug with the Doorbell 3, and is there any update on whether a fix is being worked on?Would appreciate any insight from other users or Ring support.

Thanks!

Hi @The_Momoys. The battery level should update after the next event, such as a Live View or motion detection, triggers the Device Health page to update. If you trigger an event after putting the new battery in, does the Device Health page reflect the new battery charge? You can also reboot using the reboot option on the Device Health page, which only takes a few moments.
