This is bloody annoying? Has anyone sorted it out without smashing the bloody thing against the wall? Terrible design and tempted to send it back?

I am having exact the same issue - cannot find any easy way to remove the bracket from the new ring without damaging it. I am stuck!!!

You have to screw the security screws in and take them out and the back should come off. We felt like smashing it too so frustrating

Tightening the security screws all the way and then removing allowed me to pivot the baseplate bottom out on the Ring Doorbell 2, thanks.

Hey @Christy88. Would you be able to share a picture of your Doorbell and the mounting bracket you're attempting to remove? Removing the security screw from the bottom of the Doorbell allows you to take the faceplate off the front of the Doorbell. Once I have a picture of what you're seeing, I can better offer some guidance! :)

Hey Christy, I just had the same problem (and ended up calling support). Since the bracket holds onto the doorbell with a lip on the top, the doorbell will move upward when separating from the bracket. Grip the bracket with one hand and the doorbell with the other along the sides. Squeeze and pull the bracket downward (and the doorbell upward). Took a bit of force to get off, but the bracket seems pretty sturdy actually. Hope this helps!

i tried all the tricks in your website to separate them so that i can access the orange button for set up. the two screws at the bottom are out. cant get it off. and i dont want to damage it

Use a credit/plastic loyalty card. Slide in from the bottom and gently twist. I tried a thin knife before all I achieved was cut fingers. Why on earth do ring ship the unit with the backplate attached is pure madness!!

I had the same problem...5 minutes ago. I took a case knife and gently inserted it at a the bottom of the doorbell and slid it upward...came right off.

Just got mine today and having the same issue as everyone else. Maddening to say the least. I was finally able to use a paint scraper at the top edges and worked my way down each side and it came off easily. Hope this saves someone some time!

I used the edge of my pocket knife and got the clean separation needed for removal. The engineering on the fit is very tight (a good thing for outdoor usage), but the initial removal is a challenge. The putty knife/paint scraper/pocket knife approach along the sides requires no force and provides the needed leverage to initially separate the parts.
