Spotlight cam: Light is triggered but no recording
wireless-security-cameras

My spotlight cam records movement during the day. At night the light is triggered and turns on with movemment, but it does not record this event.

Hi @user_71617b. Which model of Spotlight Cam do you have? You can find the device name on the Device Health page in the Ring app. Once I know which model you have, I can verify what settings are available for the light and motion detection.

Floodlight cam wired plus. Not recording at night when floodlight is triggered.

Hi @user_f6dd60. The lights on the Floodlight Cam can activate on their own without the camera detecting motion since they have their own sensor. In order to prevent this from happening as much, I suggest adjusting your Light Sensitivity, which can be found in your Light Settings.

Hi @user_71617b and @user_f6dd60. Did either of you manage to figure this out? I am having the exact same problem with my new Ring Floodlight Cam Plus. Motion is detected and record perfectly during the daytime in all defined areas of my backyard, but at nighttime motion triggers the light to turn on but no motion is being recorded. The sensitivity is set to the maximum for both the light motion and the recording motion. Adjusting either does not make a difference.

Hi @user_bf314c. The lights on the Floodlight Cam plus have a separate range of motion detection from the camera. This is why you may see the lights come on from motion that the camera does not pick up, as the motion can occur outside the camera's range of detection. Check the field of view around the Floodlight Cam for any sources of heat or reflective surfaces, as these can trigger the motion detection on the lights. I would also suggest reducing the sensitivity for the lights, not the camera.

Hi @Caitlyn_Ring. I think you may have misunderstood - the lights are triggered for valid reasons (i.e., actual, valid motion) and not falsely because of any sources of heat or reflective surfaces. The problem is that when the motion detection of the light is enabled, the camera does not pick up ANY motion at all at nighttime - whether 1 foot away or 10 feet away. However, when the motion detection of the light is completely disabled, the camera picks up motion properly at nighttime. During the daytime, there is no problem - since (I assume) the light does not bother detecting motion during the daytime.

@user_bf314c Thank you for providing additional clarification. The lights turning on shouldn't impact motion detection from the camera. Make sure you don't have motion detection turned off in the Modes settings, and try rebooting the camera using the reboot option on the Device Health page. If that doesn't resolve this, I'd suggest following up with our support team @Ring on Facebook, X, or Instagram to troubleshoot further.

Hi @Caitlyn_Ring. Thank you for your follow up message. As I indicated above, motion is detected and recorded perfectly during the daytime, so motion detection is obviously not turned off, and I do preventative maintenance by rebooting each Ring device once every week. Although the lights "shouldn't" impact motion detection, they obviously ARE affecting motion detection, given that the problem occurs only at nighttime when the lights are actively detecting motion to switch on.

@user_bf314c I understand, but I mentioned the Modes settings in case you toggled between Modes. Some users will have motion detection disabled in Home Mode, for example, without intending to. From here, I would recommend following up with our support team to troubleshoot this more thoroughly. We have covered all the steps I can suggest on the Community, and I am unable to view account or device details to see what's happening on the back end. You can reach our social support team by sending a message @Ring on Facebook, X, or Instagram. Including a link to this thread in your message would be helpful in providing context as well.
