Hello Ring Support,

I am experiencing an issue with my camera’s motion detection (outdoor cam plus). Despite increasing the motion sensitivity to the maximum level and adjusting the motion zones multiple times, the camera continues to miss motion events in my backyard

The main concern is that recording is triggered very late, often after the person or object has already moved significantly into the frame. As a result, the beginning of the event is frequently missed.

I have already:

  • Increased motion sensitivity.
  • Adjusted and expanded the motion zones.
  • Verified that motion detection is enabled.
  • Tested the camera multiple times from different directions.

Could you please advise on any additional settings, firmware updates, or troubleshooting steps that may improve motion detection performance and ensure recordings start earlier?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @user_68f654. How is the camera positioned? How high is the camera mounted? Can you share a video or screenshot of the cameras view so I can make some suggestions? How far away is the motion that you're attempting to detect?

the camera is mounted almost 2 meters high

the area in red is not well captured despite being the door entrance which is almost 5 meters from the camera.

Hi @user_68f654. Thank you for that information. The mounting height might be the problem. As you can see here, it needs to be mounted just a bit higher for optimal motion detection. Try mounting it around 3 meters high and I'm sure you'll see improvement in your motion detection.

I am also having issues with the Battery Cam Plus it will NOT record at all.  I have talked to Ring customer service 4 times and they could not get the camera to record.  They even sent me another camera to try and that one did not record either.  I have a subscription Multi both camera's show they a linked to the subscription but I don't think the camera is actually connected.  My doorbell camera is also a battery and it records without any issues.  I read that if I wanted 24/7 recording the camera needs to be hardwired, but, I just want it to record when there is motion in my yard.  How can I get this camera to record motion.

Hi @user_38f50f. If you've talked to our support team 4 times about your Motion Detection, I would continue the conversation with them about your concern. I would likely just offer suggestions they've already been through with you. You can view the status of your Ring Protect Plan and what devies are covered under it by logging in on Ring.com
