Motion detection range significantly decreased recently
I own/have owned numerous Ring Products over many years: Wired Doorbell-initial version, now Pro 2, Spotlight Cam Wired, two Floodlight Cam Pros, 2 Floodlight Cams, 4 Stick Up Cam Elite (2nd Gen) wired. I have proactively and positively touted the benefits of these products to my professional co-workers, neighbors, and friends.
So, my motion detection range was excellent, out to about 80 ft, which allowed my Floodlight Cams to detect street vehicle/foot traffic, and determine if trucks/cars/bikes/people with mal intent were "inspecting" the neighborhood for criminal activity. After all, isn't the purpose of this product to alert us to potential dangers.
A few months ago, my Floodlight Cam Pro exhibited issues with the screen going gray for a period of time, so Ring replaced it recently-week or so ago-with a new Floodlight Cam Pro (hardware version 5 dated Oct 2024). Subsequent to installation, my motion detection range was significantly reduced to approximatley 30 feet. I talked a length with a US senior Tech Support person (passed to him from the initial team overseas) who essentially gave me the "corporate" line about 30 feet being the limit for detection. I explained that this was not the case for many years with any of the Floodlight Cams I placed outside my home, but was a recent development. I sent (uploaded) the Tech some screen captures demonstrating my point, where motion was being detected at about 90 feet. After reiterating the "30 foot guideline for detection", he then said that the motion detection algorithm changes, and that I should try adjusting the angle at which my camera is placed (that is, move the camera body up or down, left or right). Upon spending a few hours changing the angles, trying various motion zones, and walking around the front of my house at various distances, nothing changed.
At this point I actually purchased another Floodlight Cam Pro (hardware version 5 March 2024)-I received it a few days ago-installed it, but unfortunately, the motion detection range remained the same-about 30 feet.
I worked in the technology sector in Silicon Valley for 40 years, so I am not a novice in this arena. We don't need to hear someone's rhetoric about how the motion detection range is not equal to the motion zone one sets up in the application, this is obvious, we don't expect it to. Nor are we interested in "corporate" lines that 30 feet is the motion detection range when a lot of people on this forum have make it clear that this is not the case.
What your loyal clients do expect, is not to have their product's capabilites diminished from it's original functionality. Upon reading the various posts in this train, there might be substance in Ring reducing their Server storage requirements with the introduction of this "compromising" algorithm change. Also, please don't read me the small print that states "specifications may change" if that exists somewhere.
If necessary, charge me more for my personal storage space (I can at least understand and respect that approach), but don't take my ability to effectively protect my home away, especially without providing clarity as to corportae decisions and behavior.
It is clear reading all the complaints/concerns that your customer requires the motion detection range originally provided, but now ripped out from under our feet.

Thank you for your post. I could not have stated this issue any better. I have had 2 Door Bell Pro’s that have this range that allows motion detection to the street and beyond. I agree this is a critical and needed range.
When the newer of the 2 units died a year or so ago I ordered and returned 3 Ring Door Bells that did not detect beyond 30 foot.
After numerous calls to support and getting the same run around about the range being only 30 feet and ignoring me telling them that I have over 50-100 feet of detection with my current Pro’s and the new ones I just received don’t I have reinstalled my original Pro that has to be almost 10 years old.
When this one dies I will look elsewhere for a new video door bell product.
Ring is unacceptable.
