How to Enable Optimized Battery Charging?
wireless-security-cameras

I have a number of Stick Up Pro cams and a Spotlight Cam Plus, all with the small solar panel attached.  All of the devices were bought within the last 4 weeks.  I still am on the trial plan but I have already bought the Standard Plan which will kick in when my trial ends in a few weeks.

The batteries and solar charging works fine works fine in the sense that the camera status screens all show solar Status is Connected in Device Health.  All of the solar panels charge the batteries up to 100%.  If its cloudy or raining I might see them crawl down to 95% over a couple days but the small solar panel will add power right back in again to 100% as soon as there is sun.

All but one of my cameras, I fully charged the battery prior to installation as directed.  But for one of them I just gave it a couple of hours and then installed.  That gave me an initial battery charge of 31%.  The solar panel added 30% charge per day and charged the pack right up to 100%.  Not 80%.  So charging the pack initially to 100% isn't the problem.

If I click on the help icon in Device Health next to the Solar Status item in the Ring app the app directs me to this page:

https://ring.com/support/articles/9iatk/Reduce-Battery-Aging-with-Optimized-Battery-Charging

That page says my Ring devices ALL will optimize charging and only go to 80%.  But they don't.  They zip right up to 100% every time and there is no app option to enable optimized charging.  How do you enable that feature, which Ring says is the default?

I have two solar-charged ring cameras. Until recently, they behaved like the original post: they always charged up to 100%. Since August 2025, they have changed. One remains stuck at 85% for several days; The other at 93%. It's always sunny here in SoCal. They seem to report in at least once per day. After a few days of this behavior, one of the other jumps to 100%. Then the drop back back to 85% or 93% over the next days or so. As the cause of this behavior, I reject the various statements on the ring web site: clean the contacts, reposition, Etc. Instead, this could be firmware's non-on Kiki's

(Continuing) non-obvious way of spending little time at 100%, while reassuring the user that the battery retains the capability of charging to 100%. Several questions remain, but I doubt that Ring's engineers, or its AI, will do us the courtesy of responding.
