Hi,
Longtime Ring doorbell and camera user, recent security alarm convert to Ring security from a major regional brand.
I love how the base station for the door and window alarms has a backup battery and cellular backup. Great peace of mind.
I decided to add a couple of Ring/Kidde smoke detectors to my system. I was disappointed to see that they don't integrate with the base station, and just use wifi. This means that if there is a fire when my power and/or Internet are out, if I'm not home, I won't be aware of a fire. It appears it would be the same if I bought one of the smoke alarm listener devices.
I see that the listener (and maybe the detectors I have.....I'm not sure) use "Sidewalk." However, if my understanding of that system is correct, it would see that if the power outage is to my neighborhood and not just my home, Sidewalk would be of no help.
Please let me know if my understanding is incorrect, and please consider this in your future models. It would be great if fire protection could take advantage of the same backup options that burglary protection has.
Thanks

Thank you @Caitlyn_Ring for responding. Thank you for reiterating more or less what I was saying and thinking.
I think what you're saying more or less confirms my concerns. There isn't a way to connect the smoke alarms to the monitoring service in the way that the burglary alarms can via cellular backup.
Please take this as a request for that feature.
Thanks!

Hi @steveontheriver. The Kidde Smart Smoke Alarm can be integrated with the Ring app to send you alerts when smoke is detected. However, it does not have any built-in cellular backup. If your internet is out, the Kidde Smart Smoke Alarm would disconnect from wifi. The Ring Alarm Contact Sensors are still able to communicate with the Base Station during an internet outage as they connect via Z-Wave, not wifi.
The Ring Smoke & CO Listener uses Sidewalk to connect, meaning it will still remain connected automatically in the event that your power or wifi goes down. You can learn more about how Sidewalk works here. Sidewalk coverage can vary by location and is subject to change or interruption, so I can't speak to every scenario that might occur, such as a neighborhood-wide power outage. You can check approximate Sidewalk coverage in your area using this map.
