Yes .. me also... had i known you had those differences and these battery packs in the 2nd gen doorbells only lasted a few weeks at best...
I could of made a better decision ... even bought a 2nd battery pack to switch out... only to find mine wasn't built like that....
Im hard wired and pretty much shut down the whole thing... still goes dead in a week or so..

100% agree with your comments. Who's got the time or energy to keep unscrewing those fiddlely little screws every 2 weeks yo recharge the battery. It's so irritating, you should replace all purchasers ring doorbell free of charge for this design fault.

Completely agree, they you know what the bed here. This was a stupid idea and someone’s head should roll! Clearly they didn’t ask customers, not you have no door bell when it needs charging and when the batter dies, you need a whole new unit! Screw the consumer is the ONLY reason they’d do such a thing.

This is 2025 and I just got bamboozled by the same thing. I already opened it before I knew. not happy because I have psoriatic arthritis in my hands and screwdrivers are impossible some days. I was replacing my old ring doorbell because the speaker doesn’t work. I even have extra batteries already. They had five years to make this clearer on their product description and the box.
pretty disillusioned with Ring products right now after this. I also bought a ring spotlight plus maybe they just all need to go back

I have the ring 2nd gen, and I didn't mind taking it off to charge batter, as the battery last pretty long. My issue is now it wont turn on, shows charging and battery wasn't dead, just woke up and said it was off line. Come to find out it shows charging, but when I unplug it, the ring 2nd gen has no life wont turn on.

I totally agree, this is incredible insane and misleading. It’s a hassle to keep unscrewing and screwing it back on

The Video Doorbell 2nd Gen does not have a removable battery. The Doorbell itself must be removed when the battery needs to be charged. When purchasing a Ring Doorbell, make sure to review all the information on the product page, so you know if it will be the right fit.
