Stick Up Cam - battery model change
battery-security-cameras

I just got a new Stick Up Cam Outdoor (3rd gen) and noticed the quick release battery is slightly different than the one in all of my older Stick Up Cams.

They both have a model number of 5AT3S3, with 3.6V, 5690mAh, 21.456wH. Same 5V/800mA micro-USB input. New battery on top, original on the bottom.

But the shape is a little bigger. In the photo below, the new battery is on top and the original is the bottom. Notice how the bottom corners of the older battery are slightly angled in while on the new battery they are flat:

As a result, the new battery is a very tight fit in my 2-battery charger from Ring. It still seemed to work, but it doesn't just drop in, I have to push it in.

Is this battery a) safe to use in the original 2-battery charger and b) interchangeable with the other batteries in my other Ring cameras?

Hi @windracer. Thank you for your patience while we investigated this concern. Our team has confirmed that the battery with the slight modification is compatible with the Ring Charging Station and other Cameras and Doorbells. Despite a tighter fit, it will not cause any issues. Regarding the small decrease in battery life you've experienced, please refer to this Help Center article for additional troubleshooting steps. If these steps do not resolve the issue, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team on Facebook, X, or Instagram by sending a private message to @Ring for further assistance.

Hi @Tom_Ring. Any update/info on this?

This is probably a coincidence, but I've noticed my cameras seem to be going through their battery faster than normal. I wonder if there was a software/firmware update that changed something, it's probably not related to the use of this slightly different battery.

Hi @windracer. Apologies for the delay, but we're still clarifying this change with the correct team. What is the temperature where you're located? Cold weather can negatively impact the batteries used by Ring devices, so you may notice the battery not holding a charge as effectively as during the warmer months.

I'm in Florida, so the "cold" weather here is low 50s. :-) I haven't noticed this kind of degradation in the past though.

Hi @windracer. Sorry for the delay. We've been able to confirm that these batteries are safe to use. There are small manufacturing variances, which can cause a snug fit with some devices. Internally, these batteries are the same. The only differences is the visual aspect, which you have pointed out, can cause a snug fit. Thank you for your attention to detail!
