Wired Ring doorbell dead

I have a ring wired doorbell (2nd generation) that is not working as the battery needs recharging.
If it is wired (it is as the bell changes colour), why is the battery not being recharged?
If it is wired, why is there a battery in it? How do you change the battery in a wired video doorbell

The Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) is a battery powered Ring doorbell, which can be connected to existing doorbell wiring for a trickle charge. There may be a problem with the wiring, or if activity levels have increased, the battery could be draining more quickly than it can be charged. Extreme temperatures can also negatively affect the performance of batteries used in Ring devices. We have tips on troubleshooting battery performance here.
