I think ring and the rest of them seriously need to roll out compatible products asap.

my pro 3 Vodafone network in conjunction with the cold killed my 2nd gen doorbell in a matter of weeks!

No point in having a ring or other doorbell on a secondary 2.4ghz network as you cannot connect with it remotely and when in house have a device to hand also connected to secondary to use the app and doorbell, making your wifi7 router and network a pointless have!

As of early 2026,no Ring doorbells officially support Wi-Fi 7, and many models currently experience connectivity issues with Wi-Fi 7 routers, often requiring them to be connected to 2.4 GHz bands. Ring devices typically support 802.11 b/g/n/ac/ax (up to Wi-Fi 6).Key Details Regarding Connectivity:

    • Issues with Wi-Fi 7: Users report that Ring doorbells (e.g., Video Doorbell 4) fail to connect or stay connected to new Wi-Fi 7 routers.
    • Recommendation: If using a Wi-Fi 7 router, it is recommended to create a separate 2.4 GHz network for the doorbell or use a Ring Chime Pro.
    • Current High-End Models: While not Wi-Fi 7, the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro and Ring Wired Doorbell Pro are the most advanced, offering dual-band (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) connectivity.

To resolve connection issues, users have reported success by disabling band steering on their routers to ensure the device stays on the 2.4 GHz network.Extreme cold can cause Ring doorbells to stop functioning, particularly battery-powered models, while WiFi 7 networks can cause connectivity issues if they do not properly support older devices or 2.4GHz bands. Impact of Cold on Ring Doorbells:

    • Battery Drain:Temperatures around or below freezing (32°F/0°C) cause lithium-ion batteries to drain rapidly and stop holding a charge, often causing the doorbell to become completely unresponsive.
    • Performance Issues: Even at 40°F, batteries can fail. When the temperature dips below freezing, the battery may refuse to charge, causing the unit to die once the battery runs out.
    • "Hardwired" Limitations:Hardwired Ring doorbells still rely on their internal battery, which can stop working in extreme cold (around -5°F to -10°F).
    • Recovery: Once the weather warms up and the battery is recharged, it should return to normal operation.

Impact of WiFi 7 on Ring Doorbells:

    • Compatibility Issues: Ring devices are not natively compatible with WiFi 7 or WiFi 6 standards and generally require a 2.4GHz network.
    • Connection Problems:While WiFi 7 routers are backward compatible, the advanced networking settings (like 6 GHz bands) can cause constant disconnects.
    • Solution: It is recommended to use a guest network or IoT network with WPA2 encryption for better stability, as Ring devices may struggle with WPA3.

    How to Protect Your Device:

    • Bring Inside: Bring the doorbell inside to charge it with a USB cable, especially when temperatures are below freezing.
    • Keep Warm: Let the device warm up at room temperature for about an hour before plugging it in to charge.
    • Use Weather Protection:Consider a silicone cover or "doorbell jacket" to insulate the device.
