I have a barcode instead of a QR code

I have a barcode instead of a QR code in the Apple will not let me scan the barcode?
I can’t enter manually because I don’t know where the pin is? Can’t even tell what version it is? literally can’t even get past the first step.. somebody please help because I’m starting to feel very defeated!
