Charging Battery on Hardwired 2nd Gen

We had a Ring Doorbell install last year. It’s hardwired, but also has a battery. The unit has stopped working, and Ring customer service said I need to take the unit off and charge the battery.I was hoping that would not be an issue with it being hardwired, but apparently not. I am wondering if I should buy a different model with the removal battery pack? Or isn’t it a big deal to remove a hardwired unit? Thanks!

Hi @user_e7d3c1. The Video Doorbell 2nd Gen is a battery powered doorbell. You have the option of connecting it to existing doorbell wiring, which can provide a trickle charge to the battery, but the doorbell is not directly powered from the wiring. Trickle charging does not charge the battery as fast as manually charging it, and cold temperatures can impact the effectiveness of the batteries used in Ring devices. With it currently being winter, you may need to remove the doorbell to charge it more often than usual. Once the weather warms back up, this likely won't be an issue. Swapping to a different battery powered doorbell with a removable battery would make this process lightly easier, but the battery would still need to be removed and charged on occasion.
