I'm having trouble getting my Ring doorbell to trigger Alexa Routines when someone presses the physical doorbell button. I'm hoping someone has experienced this issue and found a solution.
My setup and symptoms:
My Ring doorbell is linked to my Amazon account through the Ring Alexa skill.
I can view the live Ring camera feed directly through the Alexa app.
My phone receives notifications when someone presses the doorbell.
My Alexa Routine is configured with When: Front Door → Doorbell Press.
The routine works perfectly when I run it manually, and my Echo speakers make the expected announcement.
However, when someone physically presses the doorbell, the routine does not trigger.
Troubleshooting I've already tried:
Verified that Ring and Alexa are linked to the same Amazon account.
Enabled the Ring skill in Alexa and verified the integration in Ring.
Disabled and re-enabled the Ring skill.
Re-linked my Ring and Amazon accounts.
Created a new Alexa Routine to test whether the original routine was the problem.
Enabled UPnP on my router.
Confirmed that the Ring camera is visible and works in Alexa.
I also checked Ring's Amazon Account Linking section in the Ring app. It shows "Alexa Web," along with my phones, but I don't see my Echo speakers listed individually.
The Alexa Routine Activity page also displays an error saying it cannot load routine activity at this time.
My questions:
Is there a known issue with Ring doorbell-press events not reaching Alexa Routines even when the camera and account integration work?
Can built-in Doorbell Press Announcements interfere with custom Alexa Routines?
Is there any additional account authorization, device discovery, or integration setting I should check?
Could this be a cloud-side integration issue rather than a local network problem?
I'd appreciate suggestions from anyone who has resolved this. I'd prefer to avoid factory-resetting devices or changing router port-forwarding settings unless there's evidence those steps would help.
Thanks!
