Outdoor Cam Plus - Very poor motion detection
1st, sorry if this has been asked and answered a million times.I've had an old ring stick up cam mounted to a gutter for several years. It's always done pretty good about picking up motion, often getting too much and occasionally missing something important. On that cam, I had to use motion zones to pull in the boundary otherwise it would try and record every car that drove by or dog walkers etc.Upgraded to a new Outdoor Cam Plus with the same solar powered gutter mount setup. Looks the same, mounted in the same spot etc. I can't get this cam to pick up any motion unless you're basically under it. So it does get some motion, but nothing more than 10-15' away from it.Smart alerts are off, sensitivity is maxed, frequency is high, wifi is great motion zone is the whole frame etc.Talked to support and they said factory reset it. It's a pain to get to but did that and no change. I actually have two of these so swapped to the other one and I'm getting the same thing, really short motion detection. Is there something I'm missing or are these new cams just terrible at picking up motion compared to the older ones? Thanks

It's mounted on the gutter, but not terribly high, maybe 10'. I was able to improve things a bit by tilting the camera to look farther away since it seems more sensitive at the bottom of the view. It's still hit and miss but better than it was before. The unfortunate thing with that is now I can't see down closer to my house where packages would be left and where a gate is. And again it's still not as consistently good as the ancient stick up cam it's replacing. Probably over simplifying and likely not what's happening, but it almost seems like this cam has a higher res imager and a much wider field of view, but the same PIR sensor as before. So the camera sees more, but the pir sensor sort of sees less of that field of view.

JHi @MajesticNerd. Thank you for that information. Ten feet does not seem too high for the camera's motion detection not to work correctly. I recommend giving our support team a call to look into your concern further with you. https://ring.com/support/contact-us/call?hasLangChanged=true

Hi @justin_ring. I did start with support as I mentioned in the original post. Things are still pretty hit and miss. I'm going to be switching the cam over to wired and 24X7 recording so hoping that might improve things and if nothing else, at least it'll get everything recorded even if it misses the motion.

Hi @MajesticNerd. Those were excellent steps to take on adjusting your motion settings. How high is your camera mounted?
