I plan to purchase an outdoor wired/plug in camera for use at my off grid mountain cabin where I currently have a portable cellular wifi hooked to a weather station, all solar powered battery storage. I would be linking the camera up to the wifi and keeping the camera on idle/standby and only do live view on occasion. No motion detection, just viewing as needed. Questions: AI says the camera may use maybe 2 watts of power, so a standard 5 volt USB power connection would compute to about 400 mA current draw/hr. Please verify for me under those idle conditions....that seems HUGE just for the camera occasionally checking in with the server. Second question: How much data usage just in standby as I've described. My weather station on 24/7 uses maybe 20MB daily. I have 2 GB free per month available on my wifi and I don't want the camera to push me over that limit. Ring's Support just gave me a robot response basically saying no information was avaiable. Thanks for whatever you can share. Need to set it up before the snow falls.
