I understand the frustration -- having access to longer video history would be valuable, especially for serious situations where you need to reference events from months or years ago.
Currently, Ring Protect offers video storage up to 180 days with our Premium plan, which is the longest retention period available. I recognize that doesn't meet needs like yours where extended historical records would be important.
Your feedback about extended cloud archiving is valid, and I'd encourage you to share this suggestion directly with Ring through:

In the meantime, if you need to preserve critical video footage beyond the standard retention window, you can:
• Download videos manually from the Ring app while they're still available (within the 180-day window)
• Export footage to your computer or external storage for long-term archiving
