Taxes on Ring Plans

I have had a Basic plan for several years and just updated to the Standard plan. My invoices for the Basic plan have never included any additional tax, but when I upgrade to the Standard plan there is tax included (8.13%). I connected with a representative and their response was that it "might depend on state tax law", but I am not seeing that the law would apply differently to the two plans (though I am no tax expert so I could surely be wrong). Can anyone explain to me why the Standard plan would have tax added, but the Basic plan does not?

I don't know the answer but I have the same question. I wasn't taxed on the basic but just upgraded and now was taxed. We are obviously in different stats as PA is 6%. Crazy.

Hi @user_35e063. We don't have access to billing information on the Ring Community, as we can't view account information. Unless you are tax-exempt, Ring subscriptions will have tax included. It's possible the layout on the invoice changed, and the taxes are now shown as a separate line item. However, I'd suggest following up with our support team for further billing questions. You can reach out @Ring on Facebook, X, or Instagram, or at one of the phone numbers here https://ring.com/support/contact-us/call.

For 3 years, I was charged $100 per year for the Rin Protect Plus Plan. This year my auto pay was $110.99....no notification of anything. While on the phone with Ring, I was told that they changed the name to Ring Standard Plan at $99.99 per year plus $11.oo taxes. Could not receive an explanation as what taxes were now being charged and WHY. NEVER received any advanced notifications of any changes in billing. NEVER received a request to allow additional funds to be charged. While a small amount, I feel that my money was stolen. Oh, yeah, while on the phone with Ring I received an email with an invoice and a receipt. I responded to that email and was told it was a no reply email address. Texting gives you AI and a phone call is total waste of time.

I just spent over an hour on three different phone calls to Ring. They charged me over $17 in taxes and I recognize the Arizona tax rate of 8.6%. However, three of my four devices are in Alaska, which has no sales tax. Obviously rings invoicing software is completely messed up and there is no way to speak with someone because the phone call is your only option and they know nothing about sales tax and say they have no control over sales tax. I hope someone from Ring reads this and does something about the software. It would also help to teach your phone people how to deal with this issue.

HI @user_103c2a. Are the devices you have in Alaska set up under a separate location with an Alaskan address? Or do you have them set up under the same location as your other device?
