Nothing is ever easy ...
contact-sensor

I had a 2nd gen contact sensor die so I ordered a new one. Thought I could just take the sensor itself and snap it onto the existing base adhered to my window, but nope. Ring has slightly changed the sensor even though the model number is the same. Granted, I bought my sensors back in 2021, but I was thinking would be an easy swap. Instead I had to peel off the old base (not an easy feat, that is serious adhesive) and install it fresh. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, and it's not (it's definitely better than trying to replace old ADT sensors back in the day!) I just wanted to gripe about the lack of standardization. I noticed a similar change with the Stick-Up Cam batteries recently too.

I see Ring also added an extra metal piece with screw over the battery compartment. I guess to prevent children from popping off the sensors and eating the batteries?

On the plus side, the new version of the sensor is Z-Wave Plus long-range, so that's nice. See, I'm not all negative. ;-)

Hi @windracer. While we're always working to make improvements in our products, I can appreciate that this can cause some inconvenience when upgrading or swapping out devices. Thank you for sharing your input!
