Is Ring commited to continuing with POE powered outdoor cameras?
I continue to work on a Surveillance installation for a domestic site. I have an ethernet network which includes several cables to outside locations for POE based external weather proof cameras. I am about to try a Ring POE camera linked to my Ring account. There is potential to adopt a cloud based system like Ring.I've ordered a Ring Elite Stick Up Cam which a POE powered camera, but noticed that Ring push the buyer through Amazon UK to purchase it. also, the web content suggests that the POE outdoor camera might be no more.The problem I find with WIFI cameras and other wife devices is that they are unreliable and unstable in the outdoor environment. I could not successfully install and run such a system at my property.What is Ring's future strategy on POE cameras? if they are going to be withdrawn its a none starter for me. I'll continue with the current POE cam purchase as a test.RegardsCamMAn

OK Caitlyn. I've got your current POE model on test in my network. I could let you see it if you wish. I will say that having carried out the installation I think the cam falls short on being an outdoor cam. If this is about new models for the future I have a couple of suggestions. It must be IP67 or better. The ethernet connector in the back of the camera is not in my opinion water tight. It really should be a bonded waterproof connection to a length of ethernet, long enough that the connection can be made in a dry or watertight junction box or through a wall. The mounting bracket should be designed so it able to house the cable such that it goes through the wall or into the mounting box for a weather proof connection. Further, the existing mounting plate and variable arm/positioning link is feeble and I think not really lockable to withstand the elements - High Winds. That said, it installed software really well. I notice that this camera does not support 'vehicle' motion. that's a pity because an outdoor camera really does need that. The considerable strength remains your VMS. It is very efficient.
