Feedback on Firmware Update Overriding Custom Mode Settings (Motion Warning)

To Ring Product Management / Engineering Team: As a long-time customer and former engineer, I am writing to provide constructive feedback regarding an issue I recently experienced with a backend firmware update and device mode synchronization. While away from home last week with my security system armed in "Away" mode, I discovered that our garage camera had automatically activated the "Motion Warning" ("Hi, you are currently being recorded") feature. I did not enable this setting prior to leaving. When firmware updates or cloud backend changes push out, it appears that device profile schemas inherit default parameter states for modes like "Away" and overwrite explicit user-configured preferences (in this case, having Motion Warning disabled). Discovering and troubleshooting why this setting re-enabled itself took a significant amount of my time before I was able to locate the correct toggle within the individual Mode Settings. From a software and state-management perspective, updating device firmware or backend configurations should strictly preserve user-customized preferences rather than reverting sub-settings to system defaults.**Recommendation for Ring Engineering:** 1. **Immutable User Overrides:** Ensure backend profile and schema updates maintain a diff of user-customized parameters so that an update never overwrites an explicitly disabled user setting. 2. **Proactive Notifications:** When feature flags or mode behaviors are updated on the backend, a brief notification informing users of changes or reviewing mode settings prevents confusion and lost troubleshooting time.Thank you for looking into this to improve the overall reliability of the system. Best regards, Terry D
