Subject: Serious Concerns About Limited Configuration Options – Ring Floodlight Cam

Dear Ring Support Team,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the configuration limitations of the Ring Floodlight Cam. While the hardware quality of the device — especially the camera and video recording — is excellent, the current software limitations significantly reduce its usefulness as a real home security device.

To be very clear: I am sufficiently disappointed that I am seriously considering uninstalling the camera altogether if these limitations are not addressed.

First, the actual configuration possibilities are far less flexible and customizable than your product descriptions suggest. The marketing material gives the impression that users can meaningfully tailor the system behaviour depending on their needs and on the “Home/Away” modes. In practice, however, several key functions cannot be configured in a logical way.

Second, the fact that the siren cannot be triggered automatically by motion detection is, frankly, quite difficult to understand. When a system is set to “Away”, it is precisely in that situation that users would expect the device to react autonomously to a potential intrusion. Requiring the user to manually activate the siren through the app largely defeats the purpose of an automated security system.

Third, it is equally frustrating that motion-activated lighting cannot be linked to the system modes. A very basic and reasonable configuration would be:

• no automatic light activation in Home mode, when movement is likely caused by residents, and
• automatic light activation in Away mode as a deterrent.

Unfortunately this is currently not possible.

These limitations are particularly disappointing considering the price of the device, and they are widely criticised by users on several consumer platforms and forums in Europe.

Again, I want to emphasize that the image quality of the camera is excellent. However, without more flexible and logical software options, the device currently fulfills only a small part of what a security camera of this type should realistically be able to do.

I sincerely hope that your development team will consider addressing these issues in a future software update.
