Weird Battery Behavior: Ring Battery Doorbell (newest model) vs Battery Doorbell 3

A few months ago I installed 2 battery doorbells (latest from Amazon) and hardwired them. They stay full up at 100% charge at all times and reflect charging (lightning bolt) and hardwired in the app. Last week I installed a third ring, this a Video Doorbell 3. While the device also reports hardwired and charging, it is regularly losing 1-3% per day, now at 88% last view.

I understand that the battery only trickle charges, but this is on a side door with almost no motion activity. I'm just surprised how poorly this one is performing vs the newer model especially because those have very frequent detections and notifications. Is this normal/expected? Or should I suspect some issue or bug going on? Seems odd to me is all.

Hi @acraigl. You are correct that hardwiring a battery powered Ring Doorbell provides a trickle charge, which is not as fast as manually charging the battery. However, with very little activity and sufficient power, the battery should not be draining more each day. Do you have the Video Doorbell 3 set to record when another device detects motion via Linked Devices? Is this doorbell connected to a different doorbell circuit than the other two doorbells?

No synced recordings are set and it IS on the the same circuit as the other two. I provided an update just now (I didn't see your reply at that point) so I may be OK, but I appreciate your response. I'll continue to monitor the situation.

So here's something interesting... It was installed last Friday (6 days ago) and continuously dropped every day to 87%. On the following Wednesday I decided to soft-reboot the device from the app. When it came back online, it reported a charge of 89%, went as high as 91% and has now been at 90% since yesterday. Not sure if the reboot recalibrated the battery charge, or if (from what I read elsewhere) coincidentally began charging at sub 90%, or some combination of the two.

It's still not behaving anything like my other two ring doorbells but if it maintains something close to the 90% I guess I don't really have a problem.

It's been a week since I installed this and after 2 days of consistent 90% battery, today it's jumped to 100%.

Seems like it's just not great at reporting it's own state of charge. As I said, if it stays charged enough so that I don't have to mess with manual charging, that's good enough for me. I wish I spent the few extra dollars for the newer model though -- they don't seem to have any of these issues.
