Ring can detect the water, but currently it cannot stop the water.

I currently use Ring water leak sensors under toilets and sinks in my home. They provide an excellent warning when water is detected, but if nobody is home or able to respond immediately, the water can continue flowing and cause serious damage.

My idea is Ring WaterGuard: a smart automatic water shut-off valve fully integrated into the Ring ecosystem.

The Ring WaterGuard valve would be installed on the main water supply line of the house and connected to Ring water and leak sensors throughout the home.

How it could work:

💧 A Ring leak sensor detects water.

📱 Ring immediately sends an emergency notification to the homeowner and selected household members.

🚰 The homeowner can remotely close the main water valve directly from the Ring app.

⏳ The app could display a configurable countdown, giving the homeowner time to investigate and cancel the shut-off if necessary.

🛑 If the alarm is not acknowledged within a selected amount of time, Ring WaterGuard could automatically close the main water supply, preventing additional flooding and water damage.

🔧 The water would remain off until the homeowner investigates and resolves the problem.

Additional features could include:

• Multiple Ring leak sensors connected to one main WaterGuard valve.
• Adjustable automatic shut-off timers.
• Remote valve control through the Ring app.
• Emergency notifications to multiple family members.
• A history of water leak events and automatic shut-offs.
• Integration with Ring Alarm and Ring Home.
• Manual emergency shut-off directly from the Ring app.

I believe this would be a powerful addition to the Ring ecosystem.

Ring already helps protect homes from security threats. Ring WaterGuard could protect homes from one of the most common and expensive types of property damage: water leaks and flooding.
